Eligible Checks

Most are eligible for the Check Enforcement Program. These include check returned because of :

        •  “Insufficient ” or  “Non-sufficient Funds”

        •  “Closed Account”

        •  “No Account”

Ineligible Checks

     Some checks are not eligible for the Check Enforcement Program. Checks that do not qualify include:

  Checks passed outside the county     •  Post-dated checks, pre-dated or altered checks 

  Checks written on an out of state bank account

  Checks older than 90 days

  Two-party checks   Stop Payment Checks
  Checks marked "Refer to Maker"   Checks received through the mail
  Rent Checks, payroll checks or government checks

                        

      You may still wish to pursue these checks with the help of an attorney or in a civil proceeding.

 

Follow-Up

     You will either receive the money due you or we’ll return the check with an explanation of why we were unable to prosecute.
